"Take out what feels right for you, in any situation and leave the rest behind".
As we begin this month of January, let's pop all the goodness, love, joy, wisdom, understanding, blessings and happiness from 2023, into a basket. Let's carry it through into 2024 with Health, Love, Hope and Joy in our hearts.
TO ZOOM OR NOT TO ZOOM, that is the question?
Zoom was at the top of everyone's lists during COVID. It was the means of communication with the outside world and helped a lot of people get through this dark time.
Then COVID passed and we were back to the present and continued with all our daily routines.
I've had many clients ask "Why would one want to continue with Zoom sessions, when you can go to a live session?" True. But it can depend on your circumstances, where you are living and of course the weather conditions.
Here are my thoughts:
You are in the comfort of your own home.
You can work at your own pace and be less competitive.
You can set realistic goals and achieve them.
You can stay in the moment for the duration of the session and concentrate on what the movement is all about. Hence, learning the technique not just following the instructor.
At Pilates Fusion:- "Moving to the Rhythm of your Breath" during January, we will focus on:-
Water breathing:- a breathing style that mimics water, specifically the flow, flexibility and adaptability of the liquid and replicates it with the user's movements and techniques.
Breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth. Lengthening our bodies, by stretching and getting our minds to focus on what feels right.
Strength: the quality or state of being strong.
We will continue to use our weights, as they play an important part in increasing strength and improving bone density.
Downward dog, plank, chair pose and the bridge, to mention just a few, will be included in our routines.
I will always give a tutorial on certain positions/poses, so that everyone understands the basic movements and the reasons behind them. This will assist you, when taking it to the next level, on Thursday sessions (intermediate).
We will use a lot of props during sessions. They are very important as they add variety and take you out of your comfort zone. However, if you don't have a particular prop that we using, you can always improvise (the beauty of working in your own home).
Finally, I must stress, if there is any movement/position that feels uncomfortable while doing it, do not continue with it, make a note of the movement/position and after the session send me an email and I'll suggest an alternative. This will prevent any injury that might occur.
Before doing a session, please remember to consult with your GP practitioner, if you have any medical history.
Well that sums up January and what to expect.
"Self-discipline begins with the mastery of your thoughts. If you don't control what you think, you can't control what you do"
Look forward to seeing you all🙏
